Farleigh Golf Club provided me with my opportunity to play my 300th golf course. It was a pleasurable day, the course was good and the opportunity to catch up with a good friend made the day. I really enjoy playing new courses, for my 40th year I challenged myself to play 40 new courses. That year I managed 55 rounds of golf at 45 different courses!
I have many favourites and they vary in style from links to parkland. Here are a few of my highlights.
St Mellion - Nicklaus Course
Wychwood Park
Woburn - any
Royal Porthcawl
Machynys Peninsula
Pennard
Bowood
Ashridge
Celtic Manor - any
Frilford Heath - Red
Saunton - either
Vale Resort - The Wales National
Wallasey
I am yet to play in Scotland or Ireland and hop eto change that over the coming years. Abroad, my favourite location is Portugal, especially around the Lisbon area where you will not find a bad course. Stand outs would be Penha Longa, Praia d'el rey, Aroeira 1 and 2, West Cliffs and Oitavos Dunes.
Do you enjoy playing different venues or prefer to master the challenges of a single course?
